Emerson's Westinghouse Process Control
selected to install Ovation® Information & Control System at two
Mexican sites - Campeche and Baja California PITTSBURGH, PA (February 11, 2002) -- Westinghouse Process Control, a business of Emerson Process Management, has been selected to provide its Ovation® Information & Control System for new generating capacity in Mexico. The company will install the Microsoft® Windows®-based version of its Ovation system at two sites, one in Campeche and the second in Baja California, through contracts with ICA/Fluor Daniel, the architect/engineer firm for the projects. The facility being built in Palizada, Campeche is a 252 MW combined cycle plant fueled by natural gas. The facility under construction in Mexicali, Baja California, is a 600 MW combined cycle plant also fueled by natural gas. Under Mexico's program to gradually privatize its power system, the Campeche plant is owned by Canada's Trans Alta; while the Mexicali plant is owned by Sempra Energy, based in the United States. The Ovation system uses an open architecture approach that helps eliminate concerns about technological obsolescence and dependence on proprietary systems. Operating on a high-speed, high-capacity network, Ovation was the first system built to open industry standards. It uses commercially available hardware and allows easy integration with a customer's existing IT systems, while maintaining process security.
