FAQ

1. Who can use Emerson.SendthisFile.com? Anyone can send and receive files using the Large File Exchange site as long as the sender's email OR the recipient's email is in the list of valid Emerson domains.

2. What happened to the Transfer.EasyDeltaV.com? The Large File Exchange (Transfer.EasyDeltaV.com) was a web tool that allows users to upload and download up to ten electronic files using only a web browser. A single file could be as large as 250MB. It was an alternative to FTP.

In the summer of 2007, we replaced the service with https://Emerson.SendThisFile.com.

3. What are the enhancements the new service offers?
  • Max File Size increased from 250MB to 2GB
  • File Deletion Time increased from 48 hours to 6 days
  • New Secure Transfer and Secure Storage Options
  • New 1-to-1 Communication regarding Downloads via Email Messages
  • No Public Directory
  • No Passwords
  • No Guest Access Accounts
4. How do I use the site? Step 1: Enter your email address. Step 2: Enter the email address of the person to receive the file. Step 3: Browse to select the file. Step 4: Click on the SendThisFile button.

When uploading is complete, an email is automatically sent to you and the recipient(s) you listed. The recipient clicks on the link in the email, and the download process begins.

5. What is the easiest way to send files to multiple people? If you want to transfer a large file to more than one person, the easiest way is to transfer the file to yourself first. Then, when you receive the notification email, use your regular email system to forward copies of the notification email to whomever you want to receive the file.

6. My recipient told me my files have "expired". What does that mean? The files will remain available for download for the number of days you specify (up to 6 days). After that, anyone who tries to download the file will receive the message saying the file has expired.

7. How long are files available for download? Up to 6 days

8. What does the maximum file size of 2GB mean? The 2GB limit is per browser-upload instance. If you are uploading one file at a time, then the file can be 2GB. If you want to upload multiple files in the same browser session, then you get 2GB per session.

9. What does the email notification look like if I leave the Email message field blank? The Email Message field is an optional field for you to use. The email notification message reads:

Use the following links to download your file(s).

The file name and the link to the file are also listed.

10. If the recipient accidently deletes the email before downloading the file, how can the file be retrieved? There is an upload setting "Send me a copy" so you can receive a copy of the notification email. When the recipient contacts you, you can send the notification email.

11. What if the recipient didn't receive the download notification email? Most likely either an incorrect email address was entered for the recipient or a spam-filter program intercepted the email. There is a default upload setting "Send me a copy" so you can receive a copy of the notification email. When the recipient contacts you, you can send the notification email.
Also it is a good idea to add files@emerson.sendthisfile.com to your trusted sender list so the emails can get through the spam-filters.

12. A firewall is blocking the port needed for the file transfer. Which ports and/or protocols need to be available? Port 80 and Port 443 will need to be open. Those are the ports for http and https requests.
