Reliability Tip:

Proper PM Procedure

For any Preventive Maintenance Program, well written procedures are needed. A well written PM procedure should contain the following:

  • Steps that occur in the correct order
  • Any unique safety precautions for the equipment
  • External inspections, tests, or measurements to be performed
  • Removal/Disassembly instructions
  • Cleaning instructions
  • Checks for worn or damaged parts
  • Criteria for when to replace the parts
  • Lubrication instructions (where appropriate)
  • Reinstallation/Reassembly instructions
  • Torque values (where appropriate)
  • Fluid levels check (where appropriate)
  • Alignment or adjustments to be made
  • Return-To-Service test
