Reliability Tip:

Keeping Track of Predictive Technology Input Data Points Easily

If you have ever been tasked with performing a predictive task, you know how important it can be to store the right data in the right place within your PdM software. Most of the time, the pressure is on the Maintenance Tech recording the information to get the data in the right place. Recording vibration data from the wrong point can throw off your diagnostics, and ruin your confidence in your data collection. This loss of trust can contribute to the loss of faith in your predictive technology program. It doesn’t have to be that way. By taking some simple precautions, you can ensure the right data is coming from the right point on the right asset. Here are some easy steps that you can take to ensure predictive data finds its way into the right place in your PdM software:
  1. Make sure your data collection routes make sense to the person gathering the data. One way to ensure the route is clear to the person collecting the data is to let them help you plan the route.
  2. Identify your assets and data points with bar-codes. This will make sure that the correct information is being taken for the right asset and data point. Many Enterprise Asset Management software platforms will allow you to store data based on the bar-code identity of the data point. This step can help you ensure the right points are sampled every time you gather data.
  3. Develop a standard operating procedure for how to correctly perform the task. This simple step can make sure the samples are taken the same way each time, and with consistent sample quality.
  4. Color-code your sample points. By doing this, you can help to ensure the samples are taken at the same point each time.

By taking a few simple steps, you can ensure the correct information is collected on the right asset every time. Your program will be more consistent, and you’ll continue to improve your Reliability process.
