Fibras Quimicas S.A. selects PlantWeb® field-based architecture to optimize polymerization process:

AUSTIN, TX    (11/13/2000) -- AUSTIN, TEXAS (November 13, 2000) - Fibras Quimicas S. A., in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico has selected Fisher-Rosemount’s PlantWeb® field-based architecture to control the polymerization columns in their facility and reduce automation maintenance costs. This initial installation of a PlantWeb process automation solution is the first phase of a broader project to optimize all polymerization areas of the plant.

“I expect PlantWeb architecture to provide better operating data to management at a more economical cost,” says Guillermo Belloc Garza, Instrumentation Chief of Fibras Quimicas. “It will also give plant personnel better tools to help optimize the performance of our polymerization columns and reduce time spent troubleshooting process control problems.”

The PlantWeb solution includes a DeltaVä automation system, Asset Management Solutions (AMS) software, and intelligent field devices such as Rosemount pressure and temperature transmitters and flowmeters, Rosemount Analytical pH and oxygen analyzers, Fisher Controls FIELDVUE ® Digital Valve Controllers, and Micro Motion Coriolis mass flowmeters.

The field devices use HART and FOUNDATIONä fieldbus to communicate process and equipment information, including diagnostics, to each other and to the DeltaV system with its integrated Asset Management Solutions (AMS) software. As a result, equipment configuration and troubleshooting is fast and easy. At Fibras Quimicas, some PID functions are also performed in fieldbus-enabled devices.

Fibras Quimicas personnel installed the PlantWeb equipment themselves, with configuration assistance and other technical support from Fisher-Rosemount Mexico’s office in Monterrey. “An important factor in the decision to install this process automation solution was how easy it is,” says Sergio Montes, F-R Mexico General Manager. “PlantWeb is a revolutionary, proven architecture, and its DeltaV automation system makes it easy--easy to implement, easy to upgrade, and easy to operate - and its open design makes it easy to interface with other plant and business systems.
