Emerson Wins $7 Million in Automation Projects for Gas Plants in Peru
Wednesday July 30, 3:30 pm ET

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 30, 2003--Emerson Process Management, an Emerson company (NYSE:EMR - News), announced today that it has won $7 million in automation projects from Pluspetrol Peru.

Emerson will provide automation for the Malvinas separation plant and production system for the Camisea gas fields in remote eastern Peru as well as instrumentation for pipelines carrying products from the plant. These contracts total $4 million. Emerson will supply its PlantWeb® digital plant architecture featuring the DeltaV(tm) digital automation system with advanced control software and AMS predictive maintenance software, as well as 270 FOUNDATION(tm) fieldbus instruments.

Pluspetrol Peru and its partners in the "Upstream Consortium" -- Hunt Oil Company of the United States, SK Corporation of South Korea and Techint Group's Tecpetrol of Argentina -- won a 40-year license from the government of Peru to drill and operate the Camisea fields and process the gas. Terms of the government license require the Upstream Consortium to do its utmost to prevent adverse impacts on the pristine upper Amazon rain forest and its indigenous people.

"The PlantWeb architecture provides a good solution for the challenging automation requirements at Malvinas," said Hector Demo, control and instrument engineer for the Camisea project at Pluspetrol in Buenos Aires. "Pluspetrol people at Ramos facilities, another large gas plant in the north of Argentina, have been very happy with the DeltaV system, so we urged the contractors to select Emerson."

Pluspetrol has likewise contracted with Emerson for its PlantWeb architecture at an even larger plant being built on the Peruvian coast at Pisco to fractionate (separate) hydrocarbon liquids pipelined from Malvinas and load refined products onto ships and trucks. Including approximately 350 FOUNDATION fieldbus instruments, this contract is valued at $3 million.

"In a huge plant like Malvinas, there is potentially a lot of lost production involved when instruments malfunction," Demo said. "With PlantWeb architecture, AMS software allows us to follow the behavior of our control valves and instruments at all times. This is for us a highly appreciated feature of its architecture."

Emerson products in the pipelines include Daniel metering skids, all required transmitters and control valves, and control-room precision conditioning systems.

The initial daily output capacity of the cryogenic separation plant at Malvinas will be 400 million standard cubic feet of dry gas pipelined to Lima and 20,000 barrels of hydrocarbon liquids pipelined to the Pisco fractionation plant. The entire Camisea project is expected to be fully operational in the second half of 2004.
